Spectacular long par 4 (ladies par 5) with significant elevation changes. A tee shot to the left side of fairway leaves the best approach to the green avoiding the big bunker at the front right. Admire the lake and mountain views from the green.
HOLE 2 (par 3)
Mid length par 3. A big bunker guards the left front, but you ar better off at the front of the green which is typically firm.
HOLE 3 (par 4)
You will need a solid drive to the crest of the hill and longer hitters should keep left. Downhill approach to a small green. Beware of the speedy downhill putts!
hole 4 (par 4)
Good short Par 4 with strategic fairway bunker on the right hand side. The shallow kidney shaped green is hard to hold and has numerous breaks.
hole 5 (par 4)
Dogleg left par 4 with an uphill approach to a narrow sloping green. Downhill putts really command your attention; they are fast and have subtle breaks.
hole 6 (par 3)
A green short par 3. Aim for the left side of this long narrow green that falls off to the right resulting in a delicate short chip.
hole 7 (par 4)
Tough par 4. Your drive from an elevated tee can leave a lengthy approach to a hill top green. The fun starts if you are not on in two. A green golf hole.
hole 8 (par 4)
Take a moment to admire the view from the tee then focus on hitting the fairway. Out of bounds to the right. The approach with your second is downhill but anything front right will roll off the green.
hole 9 (par 4)
You need a straight drive to avoid small trees left and a big one right. Mounds guard the front of the green both left and right, with out of bounds over the back. Downhill putts are deceptively quick.
BACK 9
HOLE 10 (par 5)
Cross the road to the 10th, a par 5 within reach for 2 for the long hitters. There is trouble all the way down the left and trees to the right. The green slopes away from you, requiring a delicate approach.
HOLE 11 (par 4)
Shortish par 4 with trees down the left. Green is on top of a hill. Try not to be short, long or left. Good Luck!
Hole 12 (par 4)
Par 4 curving left and arguably Wanaka's toughest driving hole. A drive to the right centre affords a good look at the green that has significant slope back to front.
HOLE 13 (par 3)
Mid-long downhill par 3, bunkered front left. The tee short finding the green will roll to the back leaving a lengthy putt to a front pin.
HOLE 14 (par 4)
Challenging par 4, usually into the wind with a great big gum tree right where your drive wants to go. Negotiate the tree and you still have a tough approach. Don't go left of the green, you will see why.
HOLE 15 (par 3)
Wee Willy. Aptly named drop shot par 3. Bunkers short and left but most should make a 3 here.
hole 16 (par 5)
A real par 5. Curving right with out of bounds left and trees on the right to catch the drive and the second shot. Small, narrow, sloping green is guarded by a bunker front right. Five is a good score here.
hole 17 (par 4)
Long par 4. Drive is uphill with trouble left. Only the longest hitters will see the bottom of the flag. Big bunker on the left hand side of the green. You will want to approach the flag from the front edge.
hole 18 (par 4)
What a great finishing hole. A long par 4 (par 5 for the ladies) dog legs right. A good drive to the corner and you are looking at a long second to a small green guarded by mounds front left and right. Be happy with a par and add up your score...
